Prepare passengers travelling at Christmas suggested to book forward

TRAIN passengers planning to travel for Christmas are asked to book tickets as soon as possible.

TransPennine Express (TPE), which offers services through Malton, is asking people using their services between December 23rd and 27th to book online in advance, check beforehand and allow additional travel time as the services are likely to be more busy than recently.

After the timetable change on December 14, around 80 percent of the pre-Covid-19 services are to be put into operation. Many trains will run with additional cars to aid social distancing. However, it is likely that trains are busy, especially before and after the Christmas bubble.

Customers can also book a seat reservation (which is compatible with social distancing) when reintroduced after December 14th.

Liz Collins, Interim Managing Director of TransPennine Express, said: “We ask those who are planning to see friends and family on our trains over Christmas to book as soon as possible, to check prior to travel, to allow additional time and to book at the Prepare given guidelines to follow their trip.

“Our team works extremely hard to keep the services safe, but we all help to keep ourselves and others safe by wearing face covers and regularly washing hands and using disinfectants.

“We will have additional staff in key locations over Christmas to provide additional support to anyone who needs it.”

As usual, the TPE services will end earlier on Christmas Eve and no services will be offered on Christmas Day or Boxing Day. The services will restart on December 27th, albeit with a slightly later start.
