IHoping to boost the nation’s economy after a year of coronavirus-triggered recession, state and territory governments are essentially offering free money – under conditions – to encourage people to get back on the road.

Free money sounds like a lot. But how can you get it How much do you get? And are you even entitled?

Here we answer all of these state-to-state questions based on information from government websites.

Vouchers are open to all Australians

South australia

SA’s Great State Vouchers can be used to pay for accommodation – they cannot be used for tours, experiences, or restaurants.

How much is this voucher worth?
You can receive a $ 100 voucher for accommodation in Adelaide City and North Adelaide, and a $ 50 voucher for suburbs and regions in South Australia. You have to use your own voucher – no sharing with family or friends.

When can i get it?
Registration for the Great State Vouchers will open at 11 a.m. on January 5, 2021 and will close on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 or until allotment is exhausted. It’s first come, first served and there is no pre-registration.

Where can I use these vouchers?
The venues had to register in advance to be part of this voucher program. Therefore, not that many options are currently listed. A list of these can be found here from January 7, 2021.

You must book with your voucher from January 7th to January 31st to travel January 7th to March 31st, 2021 (but does not include Saturday nights).

Who is Eligible?
Unlike other voucher programs, this program is open to all Australian residents over the age of 18. You do not have to live in South Australia to access these. To register, you need a valid email address and proof of identity.

How can i get it?
First register here for a voucher. You will then receive an email and / or SMS with a Great State Voucher code. You need this code to complete your booking. You must ensure that you book accommodation during the booking period (January 7th to 31st, 2021) for the discount to apply.

ACT (Canberra)

Canberra has launched a ChooseCBR discount coupon trial. People who live or visit Canberra in Canberra receive daily digital discounts at participating hotel, tourism and retail companies across the city.

How much are the vouchers worth?
Participants will receive a package of discount coupons totaling $ 40 each day, split into two discounts of $ 2.50, one $ 5 discount, one $ 10 discount, and one $ 20 discount. Minimum spend applies to each discount. You can find these on the ChooseCBR FAQs page.

Where can I use these vouchers?
The program covers a range of Canberra businesses including restaurants, gyms, bars and hairdressers. A list of these can be found on the ChooseCBR website.

Who is Eligible?
Anyone over the age of 18 attending or living with ACT – you do not have to be a resident, you only need to be in Canberra on the day your vouchers are issued

How can i get it?
Individuals can log in to Choosecbr.act.gov.au to create a login for the ChooseCBR portal. When the process is complete, the available discounts will be displayed on the home page. From there you can choose the discount you want to use and a five digit alphanumeric code will be generated that you will show your cashier at the time of payment.

When can i get it?
The trial against this program began on December 9, 2020 and ends on December 21, 2020.

Vouchers open to certain citizens

Victoria

Business Victoria offers a regional travel voucher program that covers accommodation, entrance fees to visits (such as galleries or museums) and tours to regional Victoria, the Yarra Ranges and the Mornington Peninsula.

How much is this voucher worth?
Each voucher gives you the right to claim a maximum refund of USD 200, but only if you are spending a minimum of USD 400 on accommodation, sightseeing or tours in the Victoria area.

Who is Eligible?
You must be a Victoria resident and over 18 years of age to apply. Each household is limited to one voucher. To receive the US $ 200 refund, you must travel during the permitted travel periods.

Round one: December 12, 2020 to January 22, 2021

Round two: January 27, 2021 to April 1, 2021

Round three: April 6, 2021 to May 31, 2021

You will also need to provide evidence that you have stayed in paid accommodation for at least two nights.

When can i get it?
The first round of coupons was released on December 11th at 10am. The vouchers are given according to availability. At the time of publication, the coupon scheme had a “high demand on site” and removed the “apply now” button.

Registration for the next round of vouchers will open on January 20, 2021 at 10 a.m. So if you want to be one of the lucky 40,000, it’s best to set this calendar reminder now. The third round begins on March 30, 2021.

How can i get it?
Register online to receive a voucher. If your application is accepted you are free to travel – just make sure to save your receipts! After your trip, you will be sent a link to redeem your voucher by proving that you spent $ 400 during your stay. About 10 days later, the money will be added to your account.

New South Wales

Dine and Discover NSW consists of four vouchers, two of which are for entertainment and two for cultural experiences.

How much is this voucher worth?
Each eligible person will receive four US $ 25 vouchers. Coupons cannot be combined and each coupon can only be used once (so try to use that much of the $ 25 each time!).

When can i get it?
A full rollout is expected in early 2021.

Where can I use these vouchers?
Two of the four vouchers can be used for dining in restaurants, cafes, bars, pubs and clubs Monday through Thursday (excluding public holidays).

Two can be used for entertainment and recreation, including cultural institutions, live music, and art venues – every day of the week, excluding public holidays. Companies interested in participating in the program are encouraged to register their interest.

The coupons cannot be used for retail, tobacco, alcohol, gambling and accommodation.

Who is Eligible?
The program is currently being tested at The Rocks and Broken Hill. Participation is only possible by invitation. When the program is in full flight, any NSW resident aged 18 and over can participate.

How can i get it?
You must create a MyServiceNSW account to participate in the program. You can do this online or through the Service NSW app. Unlike some other voucher programs, Dine and Discover has not stated that it has a limit on the number of vouchers issued.

Northern Territory

The Northern Territory has started its second round of the Territory Tourism Voucher program. Any person can request a voucher for accommodation and various activities and experiences in the Northern Territory and claim a bonus when they have traveled a long distance to use their voucher.

How much is this voucher worth?
It’s worth up to $ 200 and a dollar to dollar investment. So you have to spend the same amount that the voucher covers. The optional bonus entitlement is a refund of up to $ 200 if you book more than 400 km from your permanent residence.

Who is Eligible?
All Northern Territory residents over the age of 18 can apply. However, there are limited coupons so you need to jump in quickly.

When can i get it?
The second round runs from now until January 31, 2021.

How can i get it?
Join the waiting list by registering on NT’s Territory Tourism page. Once approved, complete the online registration form. If your registration is successful, your vouchers will arrive within seven days and you can use the codes to book online or in-store at a visitor information center.

To redeem the bonus claim, you must apply online and provide full contact details including your voucher number, booking confirmation, proof of residence and bank details.
