NEW DELHI: There is good news for international passengers when Delhi Duty-Free Services Pvt Ltd (DDFS) announced on Friday the official launch of its unique online Click & Collect facility at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA).
This facility, which has successfully completed a test run in recent weeks, enables all international passengers – both departure and arrival – to book their products in advance and pick them up on the day of travel.
This online platform, a joint venture of Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), Aer Rianta International through its subsidiary Yalorvin Limited and GMR Airports Limited, will make buying easier and safer during the Covid pandemic, an official said.
Passengers wishing to use this facility must first register on the DDFS website www.delhidutyfree.co.in. Buying spirits online must be subject to a government policy disclaimer that they are over 25 years old. Shoppers then need to enter their travel and passport details which will allow them to select their products from liquors, tobacco, makeup and skin care products, perfumes, confectionery and other exclusive travel retail stores on the website.
Passengers can place their order well in advance of their planned trip by making an online payment for which they will receive a receipt. The products must be collected from the IGIA DDFS store on the day of travel after presenting the receipt.
An airport official said that similar to traditional online shopping, passengers can also find special discounts and deals on confectionery, alcohol and other premium items on the website.
“During the pandemic, online shopping has become a ‘new normal’ and this facility will be a step forward in improving the passenger experience at the airport,” an official said. According to a Google Analytics report from the website, 1.53,000 new users are registered every month checking product availability, prices and promotions.
“Delhi Airport was a hub for experiences. Travelers are switching from impulse purchases at the airport to planned purchases, with consumers researching online beforehand and shopping on e-commerce websites as this is the safest and most preferred way of shopping, “said a DIAL spokesman.
“We continue our commitment to provide a better passenger experience at Delhi Airport,” added the spokesman. “The introduction of this digital platform also ensures the safety of passengers with the Covid outbreak around the world.”
