The Epoch Times Goals and Policy

The main aim of stablishing the Epoch is providing unbiased news coverage of all over the world with an emphasis on human rights, especially in China and its problems such as political repression under communist rule. It quickly became a critically acclaimed voice for truth in mainland China that challenged the censorship of its government-controlled media outlets. So it’s no wonder that the Epoch Times’s websites are blocked in mainland China.

It also plays an active role in raising awareness about these topics throughout Asia and other parts of the world. In 2006-2007, it ran an investigative series covering human rights abuses by the Chinese government, which gained international attention and enabled several petitions to be started at various governments around the globe calling for greater regard for human rights in China.

The Epoch Times

The AllSides website, as a source which curates and organizes unbiase news from multiple news sources, needs to know presses well to acheive its goal. It describes The Epoch Times as a media outlet that provides news and commentary on the current state of world affairs. According to AllSides, The Epoch Times has a right-leaning bias and often publishes stories that are supportive of conservative positions. Founded in 2000, the publication has a global reach, with various editions available in over 20 different countries. It also boasts one of the most read independent websites in the world.

Despite some Rumors about the relationship between the Epoch and the Falun Gong, the Epoch knows itself as an independent journal. Associated Press reporter Nahal Toosi also wrote that it is “technically inaccurate” to say that the Falun Gong organization owns The Epoch Times, but many of the newspaper’s staffers are Falun Gong practitioners. Toosi noted that “many observers” have said that Falun Gong uses the newspaper as part of a public relations campaign and that it is connected with the group and carries sympathetic coverage of it. Falun Gong is a movement fighting against Communism, founded in China in the early 1990s. Its members are under pressure in China and have been imprisoned extrajudicialy.
